With Snakeinalake Studios' Pitch Speed, you can calculate the speed of any moving object such as a baseball, football, tennis ball, vehicle, etc. All you need is to know a rough estimate of the distance that the object will be traveling.
The results will be shown in Feet per second (fps) and Miles per hour (MPH).
This is a great tool for anyone who wants to find out how fast they throw, or how fast they run. It can even be used to check the speeds of professional baseball players on TV, if you ever feel that the broadcaster or announcers are lying to you!
All you have to do is tap and hold the screen when the object starts moving (like when the player releases the ball, or starts running), and then release it after it passes the preset distance (like when the catcher catches it, or the runner crosses the finish line).
FOR BEST RESULTS:
This app works by calculating the average speed of an object over a set distance. In order for the calculations to be accurate, the distance you will be testing should be bigger if the object moves very fast (like a baseball), or smaller if it moves relatively slow (like a runner).
For example, a baseball going 70 mph should travel a distance of at least 30 feet in order to get a more accurate speed estimate. Since this app cannot measure top speed, only average speed, in order to obtain a figure reasonably CLOSE to the top speed, the travel distance should allow for two things:
1 - Ample time for you to react to the starting and stopping of motion (since your own reaction time in tapping and releasing the screen will affect the accuracy)
2 - Minimal speed change. If you throw a baseball 5000 feet at 200 mph, it will obviously not be able to maintain that speed for the 5000 feet. This will cause a poor result.
==DISCLAIMER==
The numbers calculated by this application are only estimates, they are not exact calculations of an object's speed and should not be used for anything requiring such accurate measurements.
